From Fat to Fit in Four Months

Card Games

My fiancee came down, and we decided to start off the day by going to the gym. While there, instead of doing the normal elliptical and random weight sets, I decided we'd play a card game, something that makes any workout with a friend far more entertaining.

At the wellness center, there is a back room we occupied and brought in mats, medicine balls, and a couple other things for our activity. After a 5 minute warm up, the games began. What we did was select 8 exercises, 4 of which could be done high-rep, the other four typically done in sets of 12. So, out a standard deck of cards, I drew, and my fiancee would have to do whatever the card dictated, and at the same time she drew for me. For number cards, each suit represented a different high-rep exercise, and the number represented how many of that exercise the person had to do. Each face card represented an exercise with a set number of reps (which were typically more difficult). Of course, I got stuck with most of the face cards, including all 4 aces, and Steph got practically nothing but high-rep numbers. We went through until the pile was out. It ended up being a rather enjoyable 30 minute workout.
